The All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA), Imo State Chapter, has strongly condemned the recent killing of two police officers by gunmen in the state, describing the incident as a "dangerous signal to public safety."

State Chairman John C. Iwuala, during a press briefing in Owerri, expressed grave concerns over the deteriorating security situation in Imo State, stating that "the level of killings has gone out of hand."

Iwuala criticized the state authorities for their apparent silence on the matter, saying, "It is quite insulting and embarrassing that some unknown individuals would bear ammunition, patrol, terrorize, and kill people in the state, while the authorities are all keeping mute about it."

He specifically called out the state leadership, noting that the situation "doesn't speak well of the Governor, being the chief security of the state."

Multiple Security Threats Facing Imo Residents

The APGA chairman highlighted that Imo residents are facing threats from multiple fronts. He pointed to "unchecked activities of alleged Fulani herdsmen attacks" who he claimed are "seriously terrorizing the entire state, camping in many bushes, reportedly engaging in organ harvesting," while gunmen simultaneously operate with apparent impunity.

Iwuala raised a troubling question: "If gunmen can easily kill Nigerian police officers, what more of ordinary civilians?"

The APGA leader urged the State Governor to fulfill his primary duty of protecting lives and property, challenging him to "take the bull by the horns" and implement proper security measures to restore peace and ensure the perpetrators are apprehended.

Call for Community Vigilance

Addressing Imo residents directly, Iwuala encouraged citizens to remain security conscious and report any suspicious movements in their communities. He also advised residents to use the current farming season as an opportunity to clear bushes and regularly check their forests, emphasizing the importance of forming vigilante groups across villages.

The killing of the two police officers represents a significant escalation in the security challenges facing Imo State, which has seen various forms of violence in recent years.
