Femi Gbajabiamila, Chief of Staff to President Bola Tinubu, has called on northern political leaders to back the President's re-election bid for the upcoming 2027 general elections, emphasizing the benefits the region has received under the current administration.
Speaking at the 2025 Dialogue Session of the Northern Caucus of the National Forum of Former Legislators in Abuja, Gbajabiamila highlighted the inclusive nature of Tinubu's leadership approach.
"President Tinubu is not just a Southern leader; he is a national leader who has carried every region along," Gbajabiamila stated. "From critical infrastructure to policy reforms, the North is benefitting from a government that believes in equity and shared prosperity."
The Chief of Staff further emphasized the importance of continuity in governance, noting that the administration is still implementing its development agenda. "We are laying solid foundations today, and it is only right that the President is allowed to finish what he started," he added.
This appeal comes as political alignments begin to take shape ahead of the 2027 presidential election, with various stakeholders already positioning themselves within Nigeria's complex political landscape.
The Northern Caucus of the National Forum of Former Legislators represents a significant political bloc, whose support could be crucial for any presidential candidate seeking electoral success in 2027.
While Gbajabiamila's appeal highlights the administration's confidence in its performance, political observers note that the coming months will reveal whether northern political leaders will heed this call for continued support of President Tinubu's leadership.
