Tragedy struck over the weekend in Okitipupa Local Government Area of Ondo State following the death of a 25-year-old man who was fatally stabbed by his girlfriend during a heated argument over infidelity allegations.
The deceased, identified as Michael Ikuedowoni, was allegedly stabbed with a pair of scissors by his girlfriend, Augustina Mowari, in the one-room apartment where the couple had been cohabiting.
According to sources familiar with the incident, the fatal confrontation erupted after Augustina accused Michael of cheating on her with other women in the community, leading to a violent altercation that has now plunged the neighborhood into mourning.
A witness who spoke on condition of anonymity revealed that the couple had a history of relationship conflicts. "That was not the first time they engaged in heated confrontation. This last one, Augustina accused Michael of cheating on her with another woman. Within seconds, there was a shouting match between the two and it resulted in a fight. It was in the process that she brought out a pair of scissors and stabbed him in the leg. They were both living together."
Reports indicate that Michael was initially taken to a medical center where he received treatment and was subsequently discharged. However, his condition deteriorated rapidly after returning home as his leg became severely swollen. Despite being rushed back to the hospital on Sunday night, he unfortunately succumbed to his injuries.
The Police Public Relations Officer in Ondo State, Olayinka Ayanlade, confirmed the incident and stated that the suspect has been apprehended and is currently in police custody. He added that the case will be charged to court once investigations are concluded.
This tragic incident highlights the dangerous escalation of domestic disputes and the devastating consequences of relationship violence. Experts continue to advocate for better conflict resolution mechanisms among couples and urge those experiencing relationship difficulties to seek professional help rather than resorting to violence.
