Operatives of the Ondo State Police Command have intercepted an unregistered vehicle transporting crystal methamphetamine, commonly known as 'ice', along with other hard drugs during a routine stop-and-search operation.
The illegal substances were discovered by a patrol team led by ASP Amos Ayuba at Ilara-mokin in Ifedore Local Government Area of the state over the weekend.
According to Ondo State Commissioner of Police, Adebowale Lawal, the vehicle carrying the narcotics was using a fake number plate that had allegedly been stolen from another car. This discovery, he noted, reinforces the importance of routine checkpoints and stop-and-search operations in fighting crime across the state.
"All suspects connected with the case are now in custody while investigations continue," CP Lawal stated.
Following this interception, the Commissioner has ordered an immediate statewide clampdown targeting unmarked vehicles, cars with covered number plates, unauthorized dealer's number plates, and motorcyclists wearing masks or face coverings.
Crystal methamphetamine, or 'ice', is a highly addictive stimulant that has been increasingly found in Nigeria's illicit drug market. The substance is known for its severe health impacts and has been linked to various criminal activities.
CP Lawal urged residents to remain vigilant and provide credible information to security agencies to help combat drug trafficking and other criminal activities in the state.
