A 35-year-old woman has allegedly killed her husband following a heated argument over food in Garin Abba village, Fika Local Government Area of Yobe State.
The suspect, identified as Hadiza Mamuda, reportedly struck her husband with a log of wood during the dispute, resulting in his death, according to police reports.
Yobe State Police Command's Public Relations Officer, SP Dungus Abdulkarim, confirmed the incident in a statement released on Wednesday, saying, "Investigation is underway, and the suspect will be arraigned in court subsequently."
The victim was described as a polygamous man with two wives and five children, including those with the accused. His death has left the family in mourning as authorities continue their investigation.
In response to the incident, the State Commissioner of Police, Emmanuel Ado, emphasized the urgent need for community intervention initiatives to address the rising cases of domestic violence and abuse in the region.
"The Command remains committed to maintaining security and safety for all citizens," the Commissioner stated, while urging religious leaders to intensify sensitization campaigns on the dangers of physical violence in marital affairs.
This tragic incident highlights the ongoing issue of domestic violence in Nigerian households and the need for more effective conflict resolution mechanisms within families.
Domestic violence experts note that disputes over seemingly minor issues can escalate rapidly when underlying tensions exist in relationships, particularly in polygamous households where resource distribution can become contentious.
