Anambra State Governor, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo, has officially moved into the newly constructed government house, marking a significant milestone in the state's 30-year history.

The governor made this announcement on Saturday while addressing members of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) during a rally in Anambra Central Senatorial Zone, where party members gathered to endorse his bid for a second term in office.

"Let me announce to you that I have officially moved into the Anambra Light House City (New Government House). I moved there officially yesterday (Friday), and I slept there last night, woke up this morning, and simply strolled to this venue (Alex Ekwueme Square)," Soludo told his supporters.

The newly constructed government house, codenamed Light House Awka, consists of over 36 buildings, including the main government house, the governor's and deputy governor's lodges, and additional accommodations for support staff. The impressive facility was recently commissioned by President Bola Tinubu.

The completion of this project represents a major achievement for Soludo's administration, as Anambra had operated from a makeshift government house for about three decades since the state's creation. The governor had previously highlighted the unusual arrangement where the government house was located in Awka while the governor resided in Amawbia.

The facility has received high praise, with some commentators comparing it to Aso Rock, the presidential villa in Abuja. Former Secretary-General of the Commonwealth, Chief Emeka Anyaoku, described it as a "mini-city."

The project had been stalled for over 20 years, having been initiated during the tenure of former governor Dr. Chinwoke Mbadinuju. Subsequent administrations under Ngige, Obi, and Obiano deferred the project until Soludo's administration prioritized its completion.

With this development, Governor Soludo now both lives and works in Awka, the state capital, bringing an end to the decades-long separation between the governor's residence and office.
