A student of Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba-Akoko (AAUA) in Ondo State has been discovered stabbed to death in her off-campus accommodation, marking another tragic incident in a series of recent student killings in the area.

The victim, identified as Joy Adeyemi from the Department of Human Kinetics, was allegedly murdered by her boyfriend on Tuesday. Her decomposing body was only discovered over the weekend when neighbors noticed a foul odor emanating from her room.

According to a student who identified himself as Kunle, "Her boyfriend killed her on Tuesday and locked her body inside the room. It was her neighbours who raised the alarm when they perceived a bad odour from her room. We are yet to know the reason the guy killed that lady."

The deceased reportedly operated a Point of Sale (POS) business in the area. Sources claim that after committing the alleged murder, the boyfriend fled with money from her business operations.

"The lady operates POS in that area, but since Tuesday, she has disappeared and nobody knew her whereabouts until yesterday when the neighbours were perceiving a bad odour. They discovered that she had been stabbed to death by her boyfriend. The boy, after killing her, went away with the money she used for her POS business," Kunle added.

This incident comes just days after two other AAUA students, Andrel Okah from the Department of History and International Studies and John Abba from the Department of Economics, were allegedly abducted and killed by their landlord and accomplices. The main suspect in that case, identified as Tallex, has reportedly died in police custody.

The series of killings has sparked outrage among the student community. On Saturday, AAUA students took to the streets in protest, carrying placards with messages such as "At Akungba Akoko, Say No to Students Killing" and "Stop Killing Us." They called on the state government to intervene urgently.

The National Association of Nigerian Students Joint Campus Committee issued a statement condemning the killings and giving security agencies and the government a 24-hour ultimatum to identify the perpetrators.

"As a body saddled with the responsibility of overseeing the general affairs and welfarism of all Nigerian students, we strongly condemn these heinous acts and demand immediate action from the Ondo State Government and all security operatives responsible for safeguarding lives and property within the state," the statement read.

When contacted, the Police Public Relations Officer in Ondo State, Olayinka Ayanlade, confirmed that three suspects have been arrested in connection with the killing. He added that efforts are ongoing to apprehend the fleeing boyfriend.

Mr. Victor Akinpelumi, Head of Media and Protocols at AAUA, has appealed to students not to take the law into their own hands but to allow the police to conduct a thorough investigation into the matter.

The recent spate of violence against students has raised serious concerns about campus security and the safety of students living in off-campus accommodations in the Akungba-Akoko area.
