The Imo State Police Command has issued a strong condemnation of a brutal attack carried out by unidentified gunmen in multiple communities of Arondizuogu, Ideato North LGA, which resulted in the deaths of over seven people and left several others with critical injuries.

State Police Commissioner CP Aboki Dajuma described the assault on Ndi-Ejezie, Umualaoma, and Ndiakuwata Uno communities as "barbaric, inhumane, and totally unacceptable" in a statement released to the press in Owerri.

According to DSP Henry Okoye, spokesperson for the Command, comprehensive operational and intelligence assets have been deployed to identify and apprehend those responsible for the attack. The Police Commissioner has personally led a tactical unit to conduct an intensive search of the affected areas.

"The situation is now under control, and proactive security measures have been implemented to prevent further attacks and restore lasting peace in the area," Okoye stated.

CP Dajuma expressed heartfelt sympathy to the families of the deceased, praying for the peaceful repose of those who lost their lives and a swift recovery for the injured. He also extended condolences to the bereaved families, encouraging them to remain strong during this difficult time.

Local sources, who requested anonymity, revealed that most victims were shop owners and their customers who were relaxing and enjoying the evening when three unidentified gunmen arrived on a motorcycle and opened fire indiscriminately.

The Stand For Humanity Foundation, a human rights group, has also condemned the killings. The organization's founder, Chidiebube Okeoma, described the incident as barbaric and urged security agencies to expedite the process of arresting those responsible.

The Police Command has urged the public to remain calm, vigilant, and law-abiding while appealing for information that could aid the ongoing investigation.
