Super Falcons head coach Justine Madugu has declared that his team is fully focused on defeating Morocco in the final of the 2024 Women's Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) scheduled for Friday at the Olympic Stadium in Rabat.
The nine-time African champions secured their place in the final after a thrilling 2-1 victory over South Africa in Tuesday's semifinal clash, setting up what promises to be an electrifying showdown against the host nation.
This will mark the fourth encounter between Nigeria and Morocco in WAFCON history. The Super Falcons emerged victorious in their first two meetings, but the Atlas Lionesses claimed a memorable win on penalties (5-4) when they last faced off in the semifinals three years ago.
Speaking after the semifinal triumph, Madugu expressed gratitude for reaching the final while emphasizing his team's determination to lift the trophy.
"We thank God for making it to the final. I want to assure you that we are not going to relent or take our eyes off the ball. Our focus is on lifting the trophy in Rabat on Saturday," he stated.
The Super Falcons, who are seeking their 10th continental title, have already received congratulatory messages from prominent Nigerians, including the First Lady and former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, following their semifinal victory over Banyana Banyana.
In a display of sportsmanship, members of the Nigerian team also visited an injured South African player in the hospital after their semifinal encounter, showcasing the spirit of unity that transcends competition.
The final presents an opportunity for the Super Falcons to reclaim their status as the dominant force in African women's football, having missed out on the title in the previous edition.
