Suspected Fulani herdsmen have launched a fresh attack on Uikpam community in Guma Local Government Area of Benue State, killing and beheading a farmer who was harvesting millet.
The incident occurred on Thursday morning when armed herders invaded the community and attacked unsuspecting farmers. The victim, identified as Gabriel Vandefan, was not only beheaded but also had one of his hands severed and taken away by the attackers.
Jimin Geoffrey, a former media aide to ex-Benue governor Samuel Ortom, confirmed the attack to BenriNews, stating that the bandits "also beheaded the victim and also cut off one of his hands and took it away."
This latest violence adds to the growing list of attacks in Benue State, which has been under intense pressure from armed herders causing chaos across the region. The state has become a hotspot for such violent incidents in recent months.
Just recently, Yelwata community, also in Guma LGA, suffered a devastating attack that reportedly claimed over 200 lives in a single night, highlighting the escalating security challenges facing communities in the area.
Security agencies are yet to issue an official statement regarding the latest attack or measures being taken to apprehend the perpetrators and prevent further incidents in the region.
Local residents have expressed growing concerns about their safety as these attacks continue to occur despite government assurances of improved security measures in vulnerable communities.
