The Federal Government has addressed growing political discussions surrounding the 2027 general elections and emerging political movements, emphasizing that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu remains steadfast in his commitment to governance and implementing his reform agenda.
In a statement released by the Ministry of Information and National Orientation on Monday, the government affirmed its respect for Nigerians' constitutional rights to freedom of association and expression while making it clear that it would not allow political speculation or opposition regrouping to interfere with its work.
"Even as we affirm the right of all Nigerians to freely exercise their constitutionally guaranteed freedoms of association and of speech, it is also important to underscore that President Tinubu's administration will not be sidetracked by politicking or political distractions," the statement declared.
This response comes amid increasing public interest in what appears to be the early formation of a new political coalition led by figures within the African Democratic Congress (ADC), positioning themselves ahead of the 2027 elections.
While acknowledging that the current media buzz is "understandable," the Information Ministry insisted that the administration remains more concerned with maintaining economic progress and delivering on its promises to Nigerians.
"Nigerians entrusted President Tinubu with a bold and transformative mandate, anchored in the Renewed Hope agenda," the statement continued, highlighting that the first two years of the administration have already yielded tangible results.
According to the government, these achievements include a significant reduction in crude oil theft, returning investor confidence, easing inflation pressures, and increasing stability of the naira. The statement also pointed to several initiatives that are already benefiting millions of Nigerians, including student loans, improved access to consumer credit, and the conversion to CNG vehicles.
The statement further noted that the Tinubu-led administration recently commissioned "the single largest mechanisation drive ever undertaken in Nigeria's history" under the Renewed Hope Agricultural Mechanisation Programme, aimed at ensuring long-term food security for the nation.
The government also highlighted the recent signing of four tax reform bills as evidence of Tinubu's unwavering focus on economic transformation. "These reforms mark one of the most ambitious fiscal overhauls in Nigeria's history," the statement noted, with implementation scheduled to begin in 2026.
"Not surprisingly, emerging coalitions and opposition political groupings do not want a sustained focus on the progress Nigeria is making," the statement observed, while firmly asserting that such distractions would not deter the administration from its goals.
The Federal Government concluded by reaffirming that "the Tinubu administration remains undeterred, focused, and committed to building a more prosperous Nigeria for all."
