The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has declared that it remains the only political force capable of unseating the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2027 general elections.
Debo Ologunagba, PDP's National Publicity Secretary, made this assertion during a press briefing on Monday in Abuja, emphasizing the party's ongoing internal reforms and deep grassroots reach across Nigeria.
"We are organic and nationally rooted. There is no community in Nigeria without a PDP presence," Ologunagba stated confidently.
The spokesman highlighted that during its years in government, the PDP made significant contributions to national development through policies and initiatives that reached even the most remote communities in Nigeria.
Reaffirming the party's resilience despite recent political shifts, Ologunagba claimed that Nigerians are increasingly looking forward to PDP's return to power, as reflected in heightened public engagement with party affairs.
Party Unity Amid Defections
Addressing concerns about recent defections from the party, the spokesman insisted that the PDP remains unified and strong, maintaining that its core base remains intact despite the departure of some members.
"While leaders are important, followers define a party. Our grassroots supporters are not leaving," he emphasized, stressing that a political party draws its true strength from the people rather than individual political figures.
The declaration comes as Nigeria's political landscape continues to evolve ahead of the 2027 general elections, with various parties positioning themselves to capture the electorate's support.
Political analysts note that while the PDP's confidence is notable, the party faces significant challenges in rebuilding its national appeal after losses in recent electoral cycles.
