Former Nasarawa Deputy Governor, John Michael Abdul, has been appointed as the interim chairman of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Nasarawa State, marking a significant political realignment in the region.
Abdul, who recently defected from the People's Democratic Party (PDP), was appointed by the ADC's national leadership headed by Senator David Mark. The unveiling ceremony took place during a high-level coalition meeting in Akwanga town, Akwanga Local Government Area.
The restructuring of the party's leadership in Nasarawa also saw Jibrin Sabo Keana emerge as the interim secretary, while Senator Patricia Akwashiki secured a position on the ADC's Board of Trustees (BOT).
The coalition meeting attracted several political heavyweights who have recently switched allegiances from other major parties. Notable attendees included former Minister of State for Justice, Musa Elayo, who left the PDP, and Barrister Mohammed Abdullahi, former Minister of Environment, who exited the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Other prominent figures at the event were three-term Senator Suleiman Asonya Adokwe; retired General Nuhu Angbazo, a former PDP governorship aspirant; ex-federal lawmaker Abdulkarim Ombamas; ESV Dr. Umar Musa Galadima; and Mr. Nathaniel Aboki, who contested for a senatorial seat under the PDP in 2023.
Current Nasarawa South Senator, Mohammed Ogoshi Onawo, was also present, alongside Miss Farida Umar, a recent contender for the PDP National Ex Officio role, and Mr. William Alaku.
In his inaugural address as the Coordinating Chairman of the coalition in Nasarawa, Abdul called for patience and unity among prospective members. "I appeal to the general public, especially those interested in joining the party, to be patient," he stated. "A more expanded meeting would be convened at various levels soon."
This development represents a significant shift in Nasarawa's political landscape, potentially altering the balance of power ahead of future electoral contests in the state.
