Former federal lawmaker, Shehu Sani, has advised Peter Obi to remain with the Labour Party (LP) amid speculations about his potential departure ahead of the 2027 elections.

Obi, who joined the Labour Party before the 2023 presidential election and finished third in that contest, has been rumored to be considering other political platforms following internal leadership crises that have split the party into factions.

In a birthday message to the former Anambra State governor, Sani wrote on X: "Happy Birthday to Mr Peter Obi. My advice, hold thy Labour, it's the Devil you know. Don't chase two rabbits at the same time."

The advice comes amid reports that Obi is part of an opposition coalition that recently adopted the African Democratic Congress (ADC) as its platform for the upcoming elections. However, Obi has consistently maintained that he remains a member of the Labour Party despite the ongoing internal disputes.

The Labour Party has been embroiled in leadership tussles with two factions claiming legitimacy, creating uncertainty about the party's direction ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Political analysts suggest that Sani's advice reflects concerns about the potential dilution of Obi's political capital if he attempts to navigate between multiple political platforms, potentially confusing his support base.

As of the time of reporting, Peter Obi has not publicly responded to Shehu Sani's advice.
