The All Progressives Congress (APC) has officially declared Rabiu Mukhtar as its candidate for the upcoming Garki/Babura Federal Constituency by-election in Jigawa State following a primary election held on Saturday.
Ismaila Ahmad Gadada, Chairman of the APC Primary Election Committee for the by-election, announced that Mukhtar emerged through a consensus process, receiving unanimous endorsement from all 110 delegates representing the 22 wards within the constituency.
The primary election, conducted at Duplex, Babura, was witnessed by the seven-member committee, party supporters, and security personnel, ensuring transparency in the selection process.
In his acceptance speech, Mukhtar expressed gratitude to Governor Umar Namadi, party leaders, and members for their confidence in him. "I am deeply honored by the trust placed in me by our party members and leadership," he stated, while also commending the peaceful conduct of the primary election.
The candidate pledged to focus on youth employment and job creation initiatives to enhance the livelihoods of constituents if elected to represent the Garki/Babura Federal Constituency.
As previously reported by BenriNews, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has scheduled the by-election for August 16, 2025. The election became necessary following the death of the previous representative, Isa Dogon Yaro, who passed away on May 10, 2024, at the age of 46.
The by-election is expected to be closely contested as other political parties prepare to announce their candidates in the coming days.
