Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) side Rivers United has secured the services of goalkeeper Obinna Akuchie from newly promoted Kun Khalifat FC ahead of the 2025-26 season.
The Pride of Rivers are currently strengthening their squad as they prepare for both domestic league action and their upcoming CAF Champions League campaign.
Akuchie, who played a pivotal role in Kun Khalifat's promotion to the NPFL, joins Rivers United with significant experience, having previously featured for the defunct Vandrezzer FC in Uyo.
This acquisition comes shortly after Rivers United, managed by Finidi George, completed the signing of former Enyimba goalkeeper John Noble, demonstrating the club's commitment to bolstering their goalkeeping department.
The two-time NPFL champions are leaving no stone unturned in their preparations for the new season, with these strategic signings expected to provide depth and quality between the posts.
Rivers United's reinforcement of their goalkeeping options highlights their ambitions for both domestic and continental success in the upcoming campaign.
Meanwhile, the NPFL Annual General Meeting and draw ceremony for the 2025-26 season is scheduled to hold on July 28, where the league's format and fixtures will be determined.
