The All Progressives Congress (APC) has strongly condemned the African Democratic Congress (ADC) for its criticism of the state burial accorded to former President Muhammadu Buhari, describing the opposition party's stance as "insensitive," "unacceptable," and "politically motivated."

In a statement released on Saturday, APC National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka, accused the ADC of attempting to exploit a national moment of grief for political gain, calling their criticism "as spooky as it is unconscionable."

"The ADC has once again shown itself to lack empathy and understanding of customary state practices," Morka stated in the official response.

The APC defended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's decision to honor his predecessor with a state burial and provide support to the grieving Buhari family, questioning the ADC's position on the matter.

"What would the ADC have had President Tinubu do?" Morka asked rhetorically. "Deny the late President Buhari the honour of a befitting state burial? Withhold empathy and support for the bereaved former First Family? As a party that can begrudge the dead, the ADC must surely disdain the living."

The ruling party further criticized the ADC for labeling official tributes and state gestures as "political exploitation," describing such characterization as unjustifiable and dishonorable, particularly during a period of national mourning.

Morka emphasized Buhari's significant legacy as a former military Head of State, a democratically elected two-term President, and a devoted public servant who had given much to Nigeria.

"President Tinubu demonstrated compassion, patriotism, and leadership by overseeing and participating in the funeral rites of a man who gave so much to our dear nation," the APC spokesperson added.

The statement concluded with a call for Nigerians to reject what the APC described as "the ADC's brand of desperate opposition politics" and to remain focused on national unity and development during this period.

The controversy comes amid other political developments related to the former president, including debates over the proposed renaming of institutions after Buhari and visits by prominent political figures to pay their respects to the late leader's family.
