The Sokoto State House of Assembly on Wednesday conducted a special prayer session in honor of former President Muhammadu Buhari, who passed away on Sunday in a London hospital at the age of 82.

Speaker of the Assembly, Alhaji Tukur Bala, who presided over the solemn session, explained that the occasion was specifically organized to pray for the repose of the soul of the late former President.

During the session, Bala eulogized Buhari as a national hero who had dedicated his entire lifetime to serving Nigeria and its citizens. He emphasized that with Buhari's death, the nation has lost a great leader, elder statesman, and an incorruptible citizen whose exemplary life deserves emulation not only by Nigerians but by people across the globe.

"Buhari was a father and leader who deserves more than just commendation. His lifestyle remains a role model for all citizens to embrace," the Speaker stated.

He added, "We miss him dearly and will forever cherish his mentorship and unwavering commitment to building the Nigeria we all desire."

The Speaker also extended the Assembly's condolences to Buhari's immediate family, friends, associates, the Emir of Daura, as well as the government and people of Katsina State and Nigerians at large.

Following the prayer session, the Assembly adjourned its sitting until July 21 as a mark of respect to mourn the late former President.

It should be noted that Buhari's remains were laid to rest on Tuesday at his residence in Daura, Katsina State, with dignitaries from across the nation in attendance.

The former president's daughter, Hannan, had earlier revealed that she gave her father a final kiss during his last moments, highlighting the personal loss felt by the family amid the national mourning.
