The Anambra State Police Command has successfully recovered two vehicles that were reportedly stolen by armed criminals in separate intelligence-led operations spanning Anambra and Delta States.
According to a statement released by the command's Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, the recoveries were made on July 12, 2025, following coordinated efforts between security agencies.
The first vehicle, a red 2005 model Toyota RAV-4 with registration number YAB 122 AZ (Abuja), was found abandoned along Fresh Air Hotel Road, near Holy Trinity Catholic Parish in Odume-Isiowulu, Obosi. The SUV had reportedly been snatched from its owner in Oba by three armed men in the early hours of July 11, 2025.
In a related operation, authorities also recovered an abandoned school bus belonging to SUSU College. This recovery came as a result of collaboration between the Anambra and Delta State Police Commands, with the vehicle being found opposite the Magistrate Court in Asaba, Delta State. The school bus had been reported stolen on July 6, 2025.
The Commissioner of Police, Anambra State Command, CP Ikioye Orutugu, praised the swift coordination between both state commands and emphasized the importance of continued cooperation among security agencies in addressing crimes that cross state boundaries.
"The Commissioner of Police, Anambra State Command, CP Ikioye Orutugu, commended the swift synergy between both Anambra and Delta Commands and reaffirmed the importance of continued cooperation between sister security agencies in tackling crimes that transcend state boundaries," SP Ikenga stated.
The police spokesperson further revealed that investigations into the circumstances surrounding the thefts are ongoing, with intensified efforts to apprehend the perpetrators.
The recovery operation in Obosi was led by the local Divisional Police Officer, who mobilized a team of police operatives in collaboration with local vigilante personnel to conduct a coordinated search that led to the discovery of the abandoned Toyota RAV-4.
This successful recovery operation highlights the effectiveness of intelligence-led policing and inter-agency collaboration in combating vehicle theft across state lines.
