President Bola Tinubu's Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, has issued a stern warning to former Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi against forming a joint ticket with former Vice President Atiku Abubakar in the upcoming 2027 elections.

Speaking during an interview on Arise Television's Prime Time on Thursday, Onanuga cautioned that Obi would not receive the same level of support he enjoyed during the 2023 presidential race if he decides to run alongside Atiku.

"If Peter Obi allies with Atiku in 2027, he will not get the blind followership he received in 2023; it will not happen because he wants to be president and they want him to be Vice President," Onanuga stated.

The presidential aide expressed confidence that despite opposition permutations, the All Progressives Congress (APC) would retain power in 2027, emphasizing that "President Tinubu's achievements in office will speak for him."

Both Obi and Atiku are currently part of an opposition coalition that has adopted the African Democratic Congress (ADC) as its platform. The two politicians have separately hinted at their intentions to contest for the presidency in 2027.

Political analysts note that this warning comes amid growing speculation about potential alliances forming to challenge the incumbent administration in the next general elections. The relationship between Obi and Atiku has been closely watched since both ran separately in the 2023 elections, splitting opposition votes.

Onanuga's comments suggest the presidency is already positioning for the 2027 electoral battle, with a strategy that appears aimed at discouraging potential opposition alliances that could pose a significant challenge to Tinubu's second-term bid.
