Phrank Shaibu, Special Assistant to former Vice President Atiku Abubakar on Public Communication, has accused Aviation and Aerospace Development Minister Festus Keyamo of positioning himself as an unofficial campaign spokesman and political adviser to former Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi.
The accusation comes after Keyamo suggested that the African Democratic Congress (ADC), the platform recently adopted by the opposition coalition, should offer its 2027 presidential ticket to Peter Obi.
In a strongly-worded statement posted on X (formerly Twitter), Shaibu claimed Keyamo's comments revealed panic about the emerging opposition coalition.
"@fkeyamo, in your panic-stricken desperation—gripped by the looming shadow of an unstoppable opposition coalition—you have shamelessly reinvented yourself as both @PeterObi's campaign spokesman and his unsolicited political adviser," Shaibu wrote.
He further warned that the opposition coalition would be "historic" and accused Keyamo of attempting to sow discord among opposition figures. "This time, there will be no splitting of votes, no scattering of resolve. The coalition stands united, our mission is clear, and your exit is inevitable," he added.
The exchange highlights growing tensions as political realignments take shape ahead of Nigeria's 2027 general elections. The opposition coalition, which has adopted the ADC as its platform, appears to be gaining momentum, with key political figures including Atiku Abubakar and Peter Obi reportedly involved in the arrangement.
This development comes amid other coalition-related controversies, including claims by Dumebi Kachikwu that the coalition was engineered to make Atiku president, and statements from El-Rufai suggesting plans to register a new party as backup to ADC.
