Bashir El-Rufai, son of former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai, has expressed unprecedented optimism about Nigeria's unity following the formation of a new opposition coalition under the African Democratic Congress (ADC) banner.

In a post shared on X (formerly Twitter) on Thursday, the younger El-Rufai stated: "I'm sensing a united Nigeria under the flag of the ADC. For the first time in my life as a Nigerian."

His comments follow Wednesday's significant political development where opposition parties formally adopted the ADC as their official platform to challenge the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the upcoming 2027 general elections.

Key Political Figures Join Forces

The coalition gathering witnessed the presence of several political heavyweights, including former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, Labour Party's Peter Obi, former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai, and former Rivers State Governor Rotimi Amaechi.

This unprecedented alliance represents a significant shift in Nigeria's political landscape, bringing together formerly competing political forces under one umbrella with the shared goal of providing an alternative to the current administration.

As reported by BenriNews, the coalition aims to present a united front against the ruling party, with members expressing commitment to making necessary sacrifices to ensure Nigerians get good leadership in 2027.

The Presidency has reportedly warned Nigerians about the coalition, suggesting it might not remain united for long, while ADC representatives have denied claims that the party has been hijacked by political veterans.

Political analyst Aisha Yesufu has also weighed in on the development, cautioning that older politicians should not dominate decision-making within the new coalition.

The formation of this coalition comes as several former ministers from the Buhari administration and other APC stalwarts have reportedly defected to the ADC, further strengthening the opposition's position ahead of the next electoral cycle.
