A Magistrate Court in Ado-Ekiti has convicted 32 individuals for violating Ekiti State's Environmental Health and Sanitation Laws during the routine environmental sanitation exercise conducted on Saturday.
Magistrate Olubunmi Bamidele, who presided over the proceedings, stated that the violators failed to comply with the state's environmental regulations. The magistrate emphasized that these convictions would serve as a deterrent to others who might consider similar violations.
According to the court's ruling, 21 of the convicted persons were given the option of paying fines, while the remaining offenders were sentenced to community service. The court discharged 11 other individuals after reviewing the specifics of their cases.
Call for Improved Environmental Hygiene
In a related development, Ayodele Aluko, Director of Environmental Health and Sanitation at the Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources, urged residents to maintain consistent environmental hygiene practices to reduce the risk of infectious disease outbreaks.
Speaking during Saturday's sanitation exercise, Aluko encouraged citizens to incorporate regular environmental cleaning into their lifestyle. He emphasized that maintaining cleanliness is essential to good health and community wellbeing.
