Final year students of Gyutiev Model College in Saghev Ward, Guma Local Government Area of Benue State, have reportedly set their principal's residence ablaze following allegations that he failed to register them for their National Examinations Council (NECO) examinations despite collecting substantial fees.
The incident occurred early Friday morning after students discovered that Mr. Isaac Yina, the school principal, had allegedly collected N85,000 from each of the 178 final year students but failed to complete their NECO registration process.
Registration Scandal Details
According to reports, the students became enraged upon learning that despite paying a total sum exceeding N15 million collectively, they would not be able to sit for their final examinations. The discovery reportedly triggered violent protests that culminated in the burning of the principal's house.
When contacted by BenriNews, the Public Relations Officer of the Benue State Police Command, Udeme Edet, stated that she had not yet received official reports about the incident but assured that investigations would commence once details were confirmed.
"When I find out more information about the incident, I will provide updates," Edet said.
