The All Progressives Congress (APC) has officially announced the composition of Primary Election Committees for the forthcoming 2026 Area Council Chairmanship Elections in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

According to a statement released by the party on Wednesday, the committees will oversee the primary election processes across all six area councils in the FCT.

The inauguration ceremony for the appointed committee chairmen and secretaries is scheduled to take place on Wednesday, June 25, 2025, at the APC National Secretariat located at No. 40, Blantyre Street, Wuse 2, Abuja. The event will commence at 9:00 a.m.

Committee Appointments Across Area Councils

For Gwagwalada Area Council, Hon. Shafi'u Duwan will serve as chairman, with Hon. Yahaya Shehu Maradun appointed as secretary.

The Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC) committee will be led by Dr. Habibu Ibrahim as chairman, while Margaret Duru will function as secretary.

In Bwari Area Council, Hon. Austin Agada has been named chairman with Hon. Sanusi Sa'idu Kiru serving as secretary.

The Abaji Area Council committee will be chaired by Hon. Afolarin Mayowa Samuel, with Hon. Abdullahi Maharazu as secretary.

For Kwali Area Council, Dr. Akombo Benedict Imoter will head the committee, while Hon. Gambo Rimi will serve as secretary.

The Kuje Area Council committee will be led by Barr. Yakubu Bello as chairman, with Engr. Umar Shehu taking the role of secretary.

The announcement comes as political activities intensify ahead of the 2026 Area Council elections, with parties beginning to position themselves for the polls.

This development follows recent statements from FCT Minister Nyesom Wike urging political allies to use his administration's projects as campaign material for the upcoming elections.

The People's Democratic Party (PDP) has also reportedly finalized plans for the same elections, indicating that competition will be fierce across the territory's six area councils.
