The Kano State Police Command has successfully rescued a 19-year-old man who climbed an advertisement billboard at Ado Bayero Bridge in an attempt to commit suicide on Monday, June 23, 2025.
Ibrahim Abubakar, from Adamawa State, threatened to jump from the structure unless he was allowed to meet a popular TikToker known as Abdul BK, according to a statement released by the police.
DSP Hussaini Abdullahi, the Deputy Police Public Relations Officer, explained that upon receiving the report, a team of police officers quickly arrived at the scene and initiated a rescue operation in collaboration with the Fire Service team.
"Through dialogue and negotiations, the TikToker was brought to the scene and Ibrahim, satisfied with the gesture, was rescued unhurt," the statement read.
After spending hours without food during the standoff, Abubakar reportedly felt weak and was rushed to Police Hospital, Bompai for medical attention.
Police Response and Warning
The State Commissioner of Police, CP Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, commended the professionalism and quick response of the combined security team that successfully averted the potential tragedy. He has ordered a detailed investigation into the incident.
In the statement, the Command reiterated its commitment to ensuring the safety and security of all citizens while warning the public against such acts, noting that attempted suicide is "a criminal offense punishable under the law."
The police encouraged individuals struggling with emotional difficulties and other related issues to seek help from relevant authorities and professionals rather than resorting to such extreme measures.
This incident highlights growing concerns about the influence of social media personalities on young Nigerians and the lengths some fans might go to gain attention from their internet idols.
