Israel's military leadership has declared it will launch a forceful retaliation after Iran violated a newly established ceasefire by firing ballistic missiles at Israel early Tuesday.
IDF Chief of Staff Lt. Gen. Eyal Zamir said during a security assessment that the Iranian regime had committed a "grave violation of the ceasefire," adding, "We will strike with force."
The ceasefire, brokered just hours earlier by the United States and Qatar, was intended to bring an end to a high-stakes conflict between Israel and Iran, marked by almost two weeks of intense military exchanges and heavy casualties.
Missile Attack Despite Ceasefire Agreement
Shortly after the ceasefire took effect, Iran launched two ballistic missiles at Israeli territory. The IDF reported that both projectiles were intercepted successfully, with no immediate injuries or damage reported.
However, Israeli officials view the act as a blatant breach of trust and escalation. An Israeli government official, speaking anonymously, told reporters, "Iran broke the ceasefire, and it will pay."
The Prime Minister's Office had earlier issued a warning that Israel would "respond forcefully to any violation" of the ceasefire agreement.
This latest development threatens to reignite tensions in a region already destabilized by ongoing conflicts. The ceasefire had briefly raised hopes for de-escalation after days of increasing hostilities between the two nations.
Military analysts suggest Israel's response could target Iranian military installations or strategic assets, potentially drawing the region into a wider conflict.
International mediators, including the United States and Qatar, are reportedly working to salvage the ceasefire agreement, though prospects appear dim following this direct violation.
