Former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, has revealed that President Bola Tinubu never liked him during his time in the All Progressives Congress (APC), describing himself instead as "Buhari's boy" within the ruling party.
El-Rufai made these revelations during an interview on 'Prime Time', a programme on Arise Television on Monday, where he discussed his relationships with key figures in Nigeria's political landscape.
"Bola Tinubu never really liked me, but we never really got along. In the party, I was Buhari's boy," El-Rufai stated during the interview. He further revealed that within the APC, he maintained a closer relationship with former Osun State Governor and party chieftain, Bisi Akande.
"The person I got along with was Baba Akande," the former governor added.
Doubts About INEC's Impartiality
During the same interview, El-Rufai expressed skepticism about the Independent National Electoral Commission's (INEC) willingness to register a new coalition political party under its current leadership headed by Prof. Yakubu Mahmoud.
The former FCT minister drew comparisons between the current INEC chairman and his predecessor, Attahiru Jega, under whose leadership the APC was registered. This comment comes amid growing discussions about the formation of a new political coalition ahead of future elections.
El-Rufai, who served as Kaduna State Governor for eight years and previously as Minister of the Federal Capital Territory under President Olusegun Obasanjo's administration, has been increasingly vocal about national politics since leaving office.
These revelations provide insight into the complex relationships within Nigeria's ruling party and highlight potential fractures that could impact the country's political landscape ahead of the 2027 elections.
