At least nine teams have now been eliminated from the 2025 Club World Cup, with Atletico Madrid becoming the biggest casualty of the tournament being held in the United States.
The Spanish giants needed a significant goal difference swing in their final Group B match against Botafogo but could only manage a narrow 1-0 victory on Monday. Antoine Griezmann scored the winner with just three minutes remaining, but it proved too little, too late.
Atletico Madrid exit the tournament with four points, following a heavy 5-0 defeat to Paris Saint-Germain and a 3-1 win over Seattle Sounders in their earlier group matches.
Seattle Sounders also saw their tournament journey end after losing 2-0 to PSG in their final group fixture. The French champions secured the win with goals from Khvicha Kvaratskhelia and Achraf Hakimi in each half.

Meanwhile, several teams have already secured their spots in the Round of 16, including Paris Saint-Germain who topped Group B with a perfect record of three wins from three matches.
In other tournament action, Lionel Messi scored the winner as Inter Miami defeated FC Porto, while Chelsea suffered a 3-1 defeat to Flamengo in a match that saw Nicolas Jackson sent off.
The expanded Club World Cup format has brought together top clubs from around the world, with the remaining teams now preparing for the knockout stages as the competition intensifies.
