Wydad AC and Al Ain have become the latest teams to be eliminated from the 2025 Club World Cup after losing their first two Group G matches, bringing the total number of eliminated teams to seven.

Both clubs suffered consecutive defeats to European giants Manchester City and Juventus, who have now secured their places in the Round of 16.

Group G Results Seal Fate

Moroccan side Wydad AC began their campaign with a 2-0 loss to Manchester City before suffering a heavier 4-1 defeat to Juventus on Sunday. Meanwhile, UAE's Al Ain endured an even more difficult tournament, being thrashed 5-0 by Juventus in their opener before Manchester City inflicted a devastating 6-0 defeat on Sunday.

With zero points from two matches and no mathematical chance of advancing, both teams will only be playing for pride when they face each other in their final group match on Thursday.

Previously Eliminated Teams

Prior to Sunday's matches, five other teams had already been knocked out of the tournament:

  • Ulsan HD (South Korea)

  • Auckland City (New Zealand)

  • Los Angeles FC (USA)

  • Pachuca (Mexico)

  • Urawa Red Diamonds (Japan)

The expanded 2025 Club World Cup format has proven challenging for clubs from smaller football confederations, with European and South American teams dominating the early stages of the competition.

In other tournament news, four teams have already qualified for the Round of 16, while notable results include Flamengo's 3-1 victory over Chelsea (which saw Jackson sent off), Messi scoring the winner as Inter Miami defeated FC Porto, and the suspension of the Palmeiras vs Al Ahly match.
