Nigerian music star Tiwa Savage has opened up about the vocal challenges she faced while recording her album 'R.E.D' during pregnancy. The award-winning artist made these revelations during a recent appearance on Afrobeats Intelligence.
Savage detailed the emotional and physical struggles she encountered in the studio, explaining that her pregnancy significantly affected her ability to hit certain notes.
"I was pregnant when I recorded 'R.E.D'. I would be in the studio crying with my big belly. It was a struggle to record the album," she recounted.
The songstress further revealed that the physical changes during pregnancy forced her to make technical adjustments to her music. "I changed the key of some of the songs in the album because being pregnant affected how I could hit some notes," she explained.
Support During Her Pregnancy Journey
Tiwa also shared heartwarming details about the support she received from her former record label during this challenging period. As the first artist to become pregnant while signed to Mavin Records, she received special care from label mates and founder Don Jazzy.
"I was the first person to have a baby in Mavin. So whenever they notice my energy is going down, Jazzy will tell them to get me my cravings which are eggs and bread," she fondly recalled.
Tiwa Savage joined Don Jazzy's Mavin Records in 2012 and remained with the label until 2019, when she signed with Universal Music Group to expand her international reach.
Despite the challenges she faced, the 'R.E.D' album went on to become one of her most successful projects, further cementing her status as one of Africa's leading female artists.
This revelation provides fans with a glimpse into the behind-the-scenes struggles that artists sometimes endure while creating the music that their audiences enjoy.
