Armed gunmen attacked and hijacked a Benue Links commercial bus on Sunday evening, kidnapping all passengers after robbing them of their belongings. The incident occurred around 6:30 pm at Eke, along the Otukpo-Otukpa road in Okpokwu Local Government Area of Benue State.
According to reports, the assailants ambushed the vehicle, which bore registration number 14B-143BN, and forced all occupants into the surrounding forest after dispossessing them of their valuables.
Immediate Response Triggered
Comrade Austin Agada, Benue APC chairman, who happened to pass by shortly after the attack, played a crucial role in alerting authorities. He immediately notified military and police personnel, who promptly mobilized to the scene to begin search-and-rescue operations.
Security forces are currently combing the area in efforts to locate and rescue the abducted passengers. The exact number of victims has not been confirmed, but all passengers aboard the commercial vehicle were reportedly taken.
This incident adds to growing concerns about highway security in Benue State, particularly along the Otukpo-Otukpa corridor which has seen similar attacks in recent months.
