Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has strongly condemned the recent wave of deadly attacks across Northern Nigeria that claimed over 50 lives in Borno, Plateau, Kano, and Kebbi States, describing the violence as "a devastating blow to our collective conscience as a nation."
In a statement posted on his official X handle on Saturday, Atiku expressed profound sorrow over the violent incidents and emphasized the urgent need for a people-centered security strategy that prioritizes human life.
"The heartbreaking reports from Borno, Plateau, Kano, and Kebbi, where over 50 lives were lost in violent attacks and explosions, are a devastating blow to our collective conscience as a nation," Atiku stated.
Call for Immediate Action
The former Vice President offered his condolences to bereaved families and affected communities, emphasizing that these tragedies represent more than mere statistics – they are "shattered families and stolen dreams."
"We cannot continue to normalise this scale of bloodshed," he warned, criticizing what he described as continued silence and indifference from authorities in the face of such brutality, particularly in Benue and other violence-prone areas.
Atiku urged leaders at all levels to rise above political considerations and place the welfare and security of citizens at the forefront of their priorities. "History will not be kind to those who chose power over people," the former Vice President added.
