Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf of Kano State has strongly condemned the brutal killing of two Kano indigenes, Barhama Suleiman and Jamilu Ahmad, who were murdered in Makurdi, Benue State's capital.
In a statement released by his spokesperson, Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, Governor Yusuf described the killings as "barbaric, senseless, and utterly unacceptable," expressing profound sorrow and outrage over the incident.
According to the statement, the victims were ambushed late at night by unidentified assailants without any provocation, leading to their untimely deaths.
Governor's Response to the Tragedy
"It is with deep sadness that we announce the untimely passing of two promising sons of Kano. They were law-abiding citizens whose only 'crime' was exercising their constitutional right to live and work anywhere in Nigeria," Governor Yusuf lamented.
The Governor assured that the Kano State Government is fully committed to ensuring that the perpetrators are brought to justice. He emphasized the importance of close collaboration with security agencies and the Benue State Government in this pursuit.
In honor of the deceased, Governor Yusuf announced his intention to lead a high-level delegation, including the victims' families, to their funeral prayers at the National Mosque in Abuja.
Call for Calm and Justice
The Governor expressed condolences to the bereaved families and renowned Islamic scholar Sheikh Ibrahim Khalil, father of the slain men. He described the loss as a tragic blow not only to the families but also to Kano State and the entire nation.
"This administration will relentlessly pursue justice. We urge for calm and restraint as we strive to ensure that those responsible face the full consequences of their actions," the statement added.
The incident has raised concerns about inter-state security and the safety of Nigerians living outside their states of origin, highlighting the need for improved security measures across the country.
