Nigeria's Super Falcons will depart the country on Saturday for Lisbon as they intensify preparations for the 2024 Women's Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON), according to team officials.
The nine-time African champions, under the guidance of coach Justine Madugu, will face Portugal in an international friendly scheduled for Monday next week in Lisbon.
Final Preparations in Morocco
Following the Portugal encounter, the team will proceed to Morocco the next day for their final tournament preparations. While in Morocco, the Super Falcons will test their readiness against Ghana's Black Princesses in another friendly match before the tournament kicks off.
The Super Falcons have been drawn in Group B alongside Tunisia, Botswana, and Algeria. All their group stage matches will be played at the Larbi Zaouli Stadium in Casablanca, with their opening fixture against Tunisia scheduled for Sunday, July 6.
Nigeria enters the tournament as the most successful team in WAFCON history with nine titles already to their name. The team will be aiming to extend their record with a tenth championship in Morocco.
Forward Francisca Ordega has already expressed confidence in the team's chances, stating that the Super Falcons are "ready to conquer Africa again," while team captain Rasheedat Ajibade has emphasized that they are focused on securing their tenth continental title.
The tournament has already generated significant interest across the continent, with Botswana's President reportedly demanding victory from their national team when they face Nigeria and other opponents in the group stage.
