The Kano State Government has launched a comprehensive rehabilitation initiative called 'Operation Safe Corridor' aimed at reintegrating repentant thugs across eight metropolitan local government areas of the state.

The program, officially unveiled at the Fele Events Centre in Kano, seeks to provide a fresh start for young people previously involved in political violence, street fighting, and other forms of social unrest through counseling, skills training, and monitoring systems.

Government's Stance on Youth Rehabilitation

Speaking at the launch event, Kano State Commissioner for Information, Comrade Ibrahim Abdullahi Waiya, described the initiative as a deliberate strategy by Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf's administration to redirect the energies of youth toward peacebuilding and personal development.

"This is the third day we are engaging with youths from eight metropolitan LGAs," Waiya said. "There is a purpose for creation, and the primary one is to serve God. In doing so, we are meant to reject evil and promote what is right."

The commissioner emphasized that the program is built on strong moral and spiritual values, warning participants against being manipulated by politicians for violent purposes.

"Allah forbids killing and harming others. No politician should convince you to hurt another person. If they offer you drugs or weapons, they are not your friends—they are your enemies," he cautioned the gathering.

Warning to Political Actors

In a stern message to political actors, Waiya warned against the exploitation of young people under the pretense of empowerment.

"We will not allow any politician to exploit our youth for selfish political gains. Thuggery is a stain on the image of Kano. It must stop," he declared.

The commissioner further noted that Governor Yusuf is committed to seeing the youth thrive in a secure, crime-free environment, offering support through the program while maintaining zero tolerance for lawlessness.

"The Governor of Kano is willing to support you, that's why we've gathered you here. But we will not condone lawlessness. If anyone offers you money to cause violence, take the money if you must—but reject the act," he advised the participants.

According to state officials, Operation Safe Corridor will be expanded with additional support systems to ensure genuine transformation among the participants.

The initiative represents a significant step in addressing the persistent issue of political thuggery that has plagued Kano State for years, potentially offering a model for other states facing similar challenges.
