Israeli Opposition Leader Yair Lapid has made a direct appeal to US President Donald Trump, urging American military involvement in Israel's ongoing campaign against Iran as tensions continue to escalate in the Middle East.

Standing before the charred remains of a bus struck by an Iranian ballistic missile in Herzliya, Lapid stated, "I trust President Trump to do the right thing for the United States. Still, both in talks with international officials and in the international media, I keep repeating that the United States needs to join this campaign."

Escalating Hostilities

The appeal comes amid heightened tensions between Israel and Iran, characterized by daily exchanges of missile fire and Israeli airstrikes targeting Iranian military infrastructure. International concerns about a potential full-scale regional war continue to grow.

Tuesday's missile strike on Herzliya was part of a larger barrage launched by Iran in retaliation for Israeli strikes on its nuclear and military facilities. Fortunately, the bus targeted in the strike was empty at the time, resulting in no casualties.

Trump's Position

While the United States has provided air defense support to intercept Iranian missiles aimed at Israel, President Trump has not yet committed to direct military engagement. However, he has not ruled out the possibility either.

On Tuesday, Trump demanded Iran's "unconditional surrender," which prompted a sharp warning from Tehran that it would respond "strongly" to any US involvement in the conflict.

Israel has reportedly struck over 1,100 Iranian targets in what officials describe as a major offensive operation, further intensifying the conflict between the two nations.

Meanwhile, Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Khamenei has vowed "no mercy" for Israeli leaders and is expected to address the nation soon amid the escalating situation.

The international community watches closely as this conflict threatens to draw in more global powers and potentially reshape Middle Eastern geopolitics for years to come.
