Russia has issued a stern warning to the United States regarding potential involvement in Israel's ongoing military operations against Iran, stating such action could trigger a major escalation across the Middle East region.
Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov, speaking to Russian media on Tuesday, cautioned that any direct U.S. military assistance to Israel would "radically destabilize the situation in the region."
"We strongly advise the United States against supplying such assistance or even considering it," Ryabkov was quoted as saying by Interfax news agency.
Growing Tensions in the Middle East
The Russian diplomat's comments come amid growing speculation in Washington about whether President Donald Trump will authorize direct U.S. strikes on Iranian military and nuclear facilities. This follows days of Israeli bombardment across Iran that has already heightened regional tensions.
According to reports, Israel has struck over 1,100 Iranian targets in what appears to be a major offensive operation. The scale of these strikes has raised concerns about a potential wider conflict that could draw in multiple regional and global powers.
Russia's Diplomatic Efforts
Ryabkov emphasized that Russia is maintaining active diplomatic channels with both Israel and Iran while closely monitoring developments in the volatile situation.
"Moscow is in contact with both sides. We are urging restraint and the avoidance of steps that could lead to an uncontrollable regional war," he said.
The escalating conflict has already drawn reactions from other regional leaders, including Turkish President Erdogan, who has stated that Iran has a legitimate right to defend itself against what he termed Israel's "thuggery."
Meanwhile, Iranian Nobel Laureates have called for an end to the fighting between Israel and Iran, as well as a halt to uranium enrichment activities that have been a point of international concern.
Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Khamenei has vowed "no mercy" for Israeli leaders, while also warning America that Iran would respond to any U.S. intervention in the same manner it responds to Israel.
The situation remains fluid as international diplomatic efforts continue to prevent further escalation in what is already one of the most volatile regions in the world.
