Convicted American R&B musician R Kelly was rushed to Duke University hospital on Friday, June 13, after reportedly collapsing at the federal correctional institute in Butner, North Carolina.

According to court documents filed on Monday, the 58-year-old singer's lawyer revealed that Kelly was hospitalized after overdosing on medical drugs allegedly provided by prison guards. The filing states that Kelly "had been placed in solitary confinement on June 10 and was given medication by prison officials."

"On June 13, Kelly was feeling faint and fell to the ground when he tried to get up. He crawled to the door of the cell and lost consciousness. At the hospital, he learned that he had been administered an overdose quantity of his medications that threatened his life," the court document detailed.

The filing further accused prison officers of denying Kelly surgery after a surgical consultation. During the ambulance ride to the hospital, the singer allegedly overheard a prison officer saying, "This is going to open a whole new can of worms."

This development comes shortly after Kelly's lawyer filed an emergency motion alleging that three Bureau of Prisons officials are plotting to have him killed by another inmate. The motion requested that the singer be released to home detention.

BenriNews reports that Kelly is currently serving a 30-year prison sentence after being convicted of racketeering and sex-trafficking charges.
