Pastor Paul Adefarasin, Senior Pastor of All House on the Rock Churches, has been granted bail hours after voluntarily presenting himself to the Lagos State Police Command for questioning regarding a viral traffic incident.
According to a statement released on the Lagos Police Command's official X page on Tuesday, authorities confirmed that the controversial object seen in the viral video was not a firearm but a stun gun, which is classified as a prohibited anti-riot equipment in Nigeria.
"What was recovered from him, the gun-like object seen in the viral video, is not a lethal weapon or firearm, but a stun gun, which is a prohibited anti-riot equipment," stated CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, the Police Public Relations Officer.
Investigation Continues Despite Bail
Despite the pastor's release on bail, police authorities have indicated that investigations into the incident are ongoing. The controversy erupted last week when footage showing Adefarasin pointing what appeared to be a weapon at another road user during a traffic encounter went viral across social media platforms.
Prior to turning himself in, Adefarasin had addressed his congregation during a recent sermon, denying possession of a firearm, though he did not specifically identify the device shown in the video at that time.
The incident has sparked significant public debate about the conduct of public figures and the possession of restricted items, particularly in a state with strict regulations on weapons and security devices.
BenriNews will continue to monitor developments in this case as the investigation progresses.
