The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) has launched a massive military campaign against Iran, striking more than 1,100 targets since Friday in an operation aimed at dismantling Tehran's nuclear and ballistic missile capabilities.
IDF Spokesman Brigadier General Effie Defrin announced during a Tuesday press conference that Israel is "operating systematically to neutralize the nuclear threat," adding that recent strikes are "deepening the significant damage" to Iran's strategic military infrastructure.
The military released aerial footage showing precision strikes on various Iranian installations, including missile silos, radar systems, and command centers. According to the IDF, many targeted facilities were linked to Iran's ballistic missile program and suspected nuclear weapons development, as well as assets supporting proxy groups like Hezbollah and the Houthis.
Escalating Regional Tensions
The extensive military operation follows Israel's June 13 strike that killed several high-ranking Iranian generals and nuclear scientists, significantly escalating tensions across the Middle East. In response, Tehran has vowed retaliation, while Israel has indicated it will continue operations "until Iran's military threat is neutralized."
Photos from Tehran show portraits of slain Iranian commanders displayed above city roads, with smoke rising from bombed facilities. A major oil refinery in southern Tehran was among the facilities hit in a strike on June 15.
The Israeli government has described the campaign as defensive and preemptive in nature. Iran, meanwhile, has condemned the attacks as aggression and promised to respond "without mercy."
This military exchange represents one of the most direct and extensive confrontations between the two regional powers in decades, raising concerns about a wider conflict that could potentially draw in other nations and destabilize the entire region.
