The Anambra State Executive Council (ANSEC) has approved several multi-billion naira contracts aimed at tackling erosion control, flood mitigation, and improving public infrastructure across the state.
According to a statement signed by the Commissioner for Information, Law Mefor, PhD, following the 11th ANSEC meeting held at the Light House, Awka, on June 16, 2025, the approvals cover a wide range of projects including erosion control, road construction, and educational facility rehabilitation.
Major Erosion and Road Projects
Topping the list of approved projects is a N3.5 billion erosion and flood control initiative in Umunze, which includes the construction of a 2.28 km road connecting several educational and residential areas. The contract has been awarded to Saidi Nigeria Limited.
The council also allocated N2.65 billion for the construction of 3.9 km of access roads within the Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University, Uli Campus. This contract was awarded to Anyi Supreme Industries Ltd.
Additionally, N2.1 billion was approved for internal roads at the Nwafor Orizu College of Education, Nsugbe, with Mid-East Construction Company securing the contract.
Educational and Healthcare Infrastructure
The council demonstrated its commitment to educational infrastructure by approving N718.6 million for the renovation of dilapidated structures at the Nwafor Orizu College of Education. These contracts were distributed among Biggstruct Engineering Ltd, Zonel Projects Ltd, and Euro Energy Resources.
In the healthcare sector, N65.7 million was allocated for additional works at the Onitsha Specialist Hospital in Fegge, with Crystal Dove Construction Company Ltd handling the project.
Sports and Road Safety Initiatives
Other notable approvals include N528.6 million for the completion of a Country Club at the Ekwulobia Stadium Complex, awarded to Crystal Dove Construction Company Ltd, and N97.3 million for the rehabilitation of Nya Ranch Road in Awka, to be handled by the Anambra Road Maintenance Agency (ARMA).
To enhance road safety across the state, N55.1 million was approved for the installation of road safety devices such as signs, rumble strips, caution lights, and speed bumps. This contract was awarded to Vadakris Ltd.
Cultural Reorientation and Transportation Reforms
Beyond physical infrastructure, the council reaffirmed its commitment to the Anambra Rebirth Programme, a cultural reorientation initiative aimed at restoring Igbo values of integrity and hard work. The programme will be launched under the Igbo proverb "Aka aja aja na-ebute onu mmanụ mmanụ," meaning hard work brings success and happiness.
On transportation reforms, ANSEC resolved to retrain and re-educate drivers across the state. As part of broader efforts to improve road safety and reduce accidents, drivers who commit serious traffic offences will be blacklisted.
These comprehensive decisions reflect the Soludo administration's continued efforts to revamp infrastructure, education, and social values in Anambra State.
