Zhang Yi, China's Charge d'Affaires at the Chinese Embassy in Nigeria, has reaffirmed his country's commitment to supporting Nigeria's infrastructural development initiatives.
The diplomat made this declaration on Monday during the commissioning of the Greater Abuja Water Supply Network, a significant project overseen by the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike.
According to Yi, the water project represents the strengthening ties between China and Nigeria and will serve as a foundation for expanded cooperation across various sectors.
"This project is not only a major achievement under President Tinubu's Renewed Hope Agenda and his successful State visit to China last year but also a model of China-Nigeria cooperation and a symbol of the profound friendship between our two nations," Yi stated.
Financial Support and Implementation
The Charge d'Affaires highlighted that the project was made possible through financial backing from NEXIM Bank of China, which provided crucial guarantees for its successful implementation.
"The successful completion of this project demonstrates China's unwavering support for Nigeria's infrastructural development and socio-economic progress," he added.
The commissioning ceremony forms part of a broader 10-day program of project inaugurations across the Federal Capital Territory, with President Bola Tinubu and other dignitaries in attendance.
These projects, completed under Minister Wike's leadership, represent significant milestones in the current administration's infrastructure development agenda.
The Greater Abuja Water Supply Network is expected to substantially improve water access for residents of the Federal Capital Territory, addressing a critical infrastructure need in the rapidly growing metropolitan area.
