Veteran Nigerian actor, Ganiu Nofiu, professionally known as Alapini, has expressed deep regret over his decision to campaign for President Bola Tinubu during the 2023 presidential election, citing the current economic hardship and insecurity plaguing the country.

In a recent interview on 'African A-List', Alapini revealed that he, along with over 100 colleagues from the entertainment industry, abandoned their work for two months to support Tinubu's presidential bid. Their support was based on Tinubu's previous contributions to Lagos State and the Yoruba movie industry.

"We led the campaign genuinely because of Nigerians' well-being and not for personal gain," Alapini stated. "We supported and committed ourselves to the campaign thinking our Messiah had come because we loved Tinubu following his positive contribution to the industry."

Lack of Recognition and Compensation

The actor lamented that despite their significant efforts during the campaign, they have received neither compensation nor recognition from the administration, now in its second year.

"And we were not compensated, this is two years of his administration. Probably they are not yet in the right frame of mind to do so," he added.

Alapini also questioned the philanthropic focus of the President's son, Seyi Tinubu, suggesting that his charitable activities appear to favor the northern regions of Nigeria while neglecting the southwest.

"Will Seyi Tinubu say he didn't see the old actors during the campaigning? We were more than 100, both old and young that campaigned for Tinubu. We walked around campaigning without being given anything for it. We just did all of that out of love," he said.

"But Seyi is running around the northern part of Nigeria to pay their hospital bills. Aren't there sick people in Yoruba land (Southwest) too? How many hospitals has he visited in Yoruba land?" the actor questioned.

Growing Discontent

Alapini's comments come amid growing discontent among some Nigerians regarding the current administration's handling of economic challenges and security issues. His public expression of regret highlights the increasing frustration among some of the President's former supporters.

The actor's statement adds to the voices of concern about the direction of governance under the current administration, particularly regarding economic policies and their impact on ordinary Nigerians.
