Yobe State Governor, Mai Mala Buni, has distributed essential farm inputs to 1,000 Mandunari Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) and their host communities to support agricultural activities for the 2025 cropping season.
During the distribution ceremony, Governor Buni urged the beneficiaries to make effective use of the implements as the farming season begins. He emphasized that his administration would continue to support citizens in embracing agriculture to enhance food security and drive economic growth in the state.
"This event marks yet another milestone in our commitment to building resilience and restoring livelihood for displaced persons in Yobe state, in line with the implementation of Yobe state action plan on durable solutions to internal displacement," Buni stated.
Comprehensive Agricultural Support Package
The distributed items include a wide range of agricultural inputs designed to support both rainy and dry season farming. For the rainy season, beneficiaries received improved seeds for sorghum, cowpeas, maize, okra, groundnut, millet, and rice. The package also included NPK and liquid fertilizers, insecticides, herbicides, sprayers, hoes, and cutlasses.
For dry season farming, the government provided water pumps, agro-chemicals, and improved seeds for vegetables such as onions, tomatoes, cabbage, lotus, pepper, rice, and carrots. The solar-powered water pumps will particularly support irrigation activities during the dry season.
Community Accountability Measures
Speaking on behalf of the beneficiaries, Alhaji Mukhtar Mandunari expressed gratitude for the support and announced that the community would implement self-monitoring measures to prevent the selling of the distributed materials.
"Anyone who disposes of the materials would be blacklisted from benefitting in future supports," he warned, highlighting the community's commitment to ensuring the inputs are used for their intended purpose.
This initiative is part of the broader efforts by the Yobe State Government to support vulnerable populations, particularly those affected by displacement, and to promote agricultural productivity across the state.
The distribution of farm inputs is expected to significantly boost agricultural output in the region and improve the livelihoods of the beneficiaries, contributing to the state's food security goals.
