A residential building located at Atake, Adebo area in Oja-Oba, Iseyin, Oyo State was gutted by fire on Thursday afternoon, destroying properties worth millions of naira.

The fire incident, which occurred around 4:00 pm on Thursday, August 21, 2025, affected an ancient residential building with adjoining shops in the Oke Ogun geopolitical zone of Oyo State.

According to reports, the Oyo State Fire Service responded promptly to the distress call. A team led by ACFS Azeez Muritala was quickly mobilized to the scene to contain the situation.

Hon. Maroof Akinwande, Chairman of Oyo State Fire Service, confirmed the incident in a statement released on Friday. He revealed that the fire was caused by an electric surge.

"On Thursday, 21st August, 2025 at exactly 16:04hrs, a distressed call was reported through telephone call. The agency's officers led by ACFS Azeez Muritala quickly mobilized and responded to the scene and on getting there, it was an ancient residential building with adjoining shop met well alight," Akinwande stated.

The Fire Service chairman further explained that while properties worth millions of naira were affected by the fire, no casualties were recorded in the incident.

In light of the incident, Hon. Akinwande urged the public to be conscious of fire hazards and take necessary precautions to prevent such occurrences in their homes and business premises.

This incident adds to the growing list of fire outbreaks in Oyo State in recent times, highlighting the need for improved electrical safety measures and fire prevention strategies among residents.
