The Gombe State Police Command has arrested a suspected drug peddler and impounded over 300 motorcycles and tricycles in a major security operation across the state aimed at reducing crime and enforcing traffic regulations.

According to a statement released on Monday by the command's spokesperson, Buhari Abdullahi, the operation specifically targeted traffic regulation violators, criminal elements, and individuals in possession of illicit drugs and dangerous weapons.

Drug Suspect Arrested with Multiple Substances

The police identified the arrested suspect as 26-year-old Muhammad Ibrahim, who was allegedly found with a significant cache of illegal substances. The items recovered from Ibrahim included 136 capsules of Tramadol, 568 tablets of Valium 5, 226 wraps of Indian hemp, six bottles of a local intoxicant known as "Kurkura," and two litres of a hazardous liquid referred to as "Suck and Die."

Additionally, police recovered over N200,000 in cash and 102 packets of cigarettes from the suspect.

Weapons Seized During Operation

The operation also led to the confiscation of more than 500 knives, 148 cutlasses, and several other sharp objects from different locations across the state. Police investigations revealed that some of these weapons were traced to illegal fabricators and distributors operating within Gombe.

Vehicles Impounded for Multiple Violations

During the crackdown, authorities impounded 220 motorcycles and 69 tricycles for various infractions including lack of proper registration and identification. Vehicles using curtains at night—a practice the state government says facilitates criminal concealment—were also seized.

Furthermore, 38 motorcycles were confiscated for using truck horns, which police described as contributing to noise pollution and increasing the risk of road accidents. Some of the impounded vehicles were reportedly linked to robbery and drug-related offences.

The command also disclosed that three suspects were arrested for allegedly tampering with the International Mobile Equipment Identity (IMEI) numbers of stolen phones.

Owners of the seized vehicles have been instructed to report to the police command with valid documentation for verification.

This operation represents part of ongoing efforts by security agencies to address rising crime rates and enforce regulations in Gombe State.
