Two explosions rocked Iran's northwestern city of Tabriz early Tuesday morning, sending thick black smoke billowing into the sky as tensions between Iran and Israel continue to escalate in the region.
According to local Iranian media, including the Ham Mihan newspaper, the blasts occurred approximately five minutes apart. Tabriz, located over 600 kilometers (375 miles) from Tehran, hosts a major air force base and has been identified as a key military zone.
The Mehr news agency released footage showing dense black smoke rising from the affected area following the explosions. While the cause of the blasts has not been officially confirmed, they come amid reports that the city was recently targeted by Israeli airstrikes.
Cross-Border Hostilities Intensify
In a related development, Iranian Army Ground Forces Commander General Kioumars Heidari claimed that Iran had conducted precision drone attacks overnight on strategic targets in the Israeli cities of Tel Aviv and Haifa.
"The drones were equipped with precise destruction and targeting capabilities," Heidari told Iranian state television.
However, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) countered these claims, stating they had successfully intercepted approximately 30 drones, most believed to have originated from Iran. The IDF reported that no drone strikes successfully hit Israeli territory, with many of the unmanned aerial vehicles being shot down before they could breach Israeli airspace.
The incidents mark a significant escalation in the ongoing tensions between the two regional powers, with both sides engaging in military actions that threaten to further destabilize the Middle East.
