The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has pledged to ensure that residents of Abuja witness the developmental strides of President Bola Tinubu's administration on a daily basis.

Wike made this commitment during the commissioning of the Greater Abuja Water Supply Network, a significant infrastructure project aimed at improving water access in the nation's capital.

Water Project Completion

The FCT Minister expressed gratitude to President Tinubu for prioritizing the completion of the Greater Abuja Water Supply project, which was initially awarded in 2017 for $470 million under the Partnership for African Development Initiative.

"We want to sincerely thank you (President Tinubu) that under this administration, this job has been completed and today you are commissioning the Greater Abuja Water supply network," Wike stated during the event.

According to the minister, the project was 85 percent funded by the Chinese government, with the remaining 15 percent provided by the Federal Government and the FCT Administration for Loops 1, 2, 5, and 6.

Expansion to Satellite Towns

Wike also revealed that procurement is underway for a new agreement with Chinese company CGC to extend water supply to satellite towns including Bwari, Kubwa, and Karu.

"Last year when you visited China, luckily for us, I was part of the delegation that went with you. There, FCT also signed an agreement with CGC to provide water in the rural areas," he explained.

The minister expressed confidence that the satellite town water projects would be completed in time for the President's third anniversary in office.

Commitment to Visibility

Wike acknowledged the support of the National Assembly in the FCT's development efforts, describing it as "impressive and encouraging."

"We will make sure that people see what you are doing in FCT, and for those who don't want to see, it's not your fault," the minister affirmed, underscoring his determination to highlight the administration's achievements.

The Greater Abuja Water Supply Network represents a significant milestone in addressing water challenges in the Federal Capital Territory, with plans to extend these benefits to more communities in the coming years.
