The United States ambassador to Israel, Mike Huckabee, confirmed on Monday that the US Embassy in Tel Aviv sustained minor damage following an Iranian missile strike that hit nearby locations. According to the ambassador, no American personnel were injured in the attack.
"Some minor damage from concussions of Iranian missile hits near Embassy Branch in Tel Aviv but no injuries to US personnel," Huckabee stated in a post on X (formerly Twitter).
Escalating Tensions in the Region
BenriNews reports that Iran launched a barrage of missiles targeting Israeli cities early Monday in retaliation for Israel's recent strikes on Iranian military targets. The Israeli military had earlier urged residents in Tel Aviv to seek shelter as warning sirens blared across the city.
Images from the scene revealed significant destruction in parts of the coastal city, with several buildings severely damaged by the blasts. Ambassador Huckabee added that the main US Embassy in Jerusalem would remain closed for the day, with "shelter in place" orders still active.
Tensions have escalated sharply between the two longtime adversaries. Israel claims its strikes last week targeted Iranian military and nuclear installations, reportedly killing top commanders and atomic scientists.
International Response
A senior US official revealed that President Donald Trump had intervened to dissuade Israel from proceeding with an alleged plan to assassinate Iran's Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.
Speaking to reporters on Sunday, Trump urged both sides to seek a peaceful resolution, saying, "Sometimes they have to fight it out," but added, "They need to make a deal."
The latest round of attacks has raised significant concerns over the possibility of a broader regional conflict engulfing the Middle East, with several countries already taking precautionary measures. Russia has reportedly begun evacuating its citizens from Iran and suspended consular services amid the escalating conflict.
Israeli authorities have warned citizens to avoid gatherings and public areas as tensions continue to rise in the region.
The situation remains fluid as diplomatic channels work to prevent further escalation between the two nations.
